Reason Why NDLEA Arrested These Suspects And The Crimes They Committed
NDLEA has finally arrested two notorious drug kingpins who have been declared wanted for over a year. Here is why they were arrested and their shocking crimes.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has recorded another major breakthrough in its war against drug trafficking.
After being declared wanted for over a year, two notorious drug kingpins who thought they had escaped justice have finally been arrested in Lagos.
The arrest was confirmed by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement released on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
Here is the full breakdown of why they were arrested and the crimes they committed.
1. Ajiboye Samuel A.K.A "Na God" - The Mushin Drug Lord
Ajiboye Samuel, popularly known in the underworld as "Na God" is a notorious drug dealer based in Mushin, Lagos.
Why He Was Declared Wanted:
On September 4, 2023, NDLEA operatives stormed his warehouse located in Akala area of Mushin and recovered a massive 1,101 kilograms of Ghana Loud, a very strong and expensive strain of Cannabis Sativa.
Immediately after the raid, he abandoned his warehouse and went into hiding. He was subsequently declared wanted by the Agency.
How NDLEA Finally Caught Him:
For 12 months, "Na God" was on the run. The NDLEA Directorate of Assets and Financial Investigation then launched a financial investigation and traced 20 different bank accounts linked to him. All the accounts were blocked.
With no access to his money, he became desperate. On September 25, 2024, he walked into a bank in Ogun State to try to access his funds, and NDLEA operatives who were monitoring the accounts arrested him.
2. Alhaji Bashir Talba - The Sarkin Yamma Of Badagry
This case shocked many because the suspect is a respected community leader.
Alhaji Bashir Talba holds the traditional title of Sarkin Yamma of Badagry in Lagos State.
His Crime:
According to NDLEA, Alhaji Talba was running a large cannabis distribution network from Badagry.
On September 18, 2024, NDLEA operatives raided his two houses in Badagry and recovered 226.2 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa.
During that operation, the suspect was not at home, but his two wives, identified as Hauwa and Asma'u, and his son, Sadat, were arrested.
His Arrest:
He went underground after the raid but was tracked and arrested by NDLEA on September 27, 2024, in Lagos.
3. Ex-Convicts Who Returned To Drug Business
In the same operation, NDLEA also arrested ex-convicts who just finished serving jail terms but went back to the same crime.
A) Muhammad Machido, 44 years
He was first arrested on December 12, 2022, with 45kg of cannabis and 2.5kg of tramadol and was sentenced to 2 years in prison. After completing his jail term, he went back to trafficking. He was re-arrested on the Kano-Katsina highway with 51,000 pills of opioids.
B) Zakari Ya'u Buhari, 32 years
He was first arrested on February 8, 2024, and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with an option of N15,000 fine. He was re-arrested in Daura, Katsina State with 7kg of cannabis.
All the suspects are currently in NDLEA custody and will be charged to court soon.
The Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for the arrests and warned that drug barons can run but cannot hide forever.
