Young football talents in Abia State may soon get a life-changing opportunity to showcase their skills on the international stage.
The Abia State Government has entered into a partnership with LaLiga and the Spanish Embassy in Nigeria to develop grassroots football and expose local players to global opportunities.
The programme, known as "LaLiga Week in Abia State," is expected to take place between November and December 2026.
What Is LaLiga Week in Abia State?
LaLiga Week will feature a series of sporting activities designed to:
- Discover young football talents across Abia
- Provide professional training and coaching
- Connect players with international football networks
- Create a pathway for talented youths to grow beyond their local environment
The initiative was announced on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists in Umuahia after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Why This Partnership Matters for Abia Youths
For many young players in Abia, the challenge has not been talent, but exposure.
This partnership is expected to bridge that gap by giving aspiring footballers in Abia the chance to improve their skills, gain professional guidance, and connect with the international football community.
