Documentary: How Yoruba Set The Pace For Nigeria's Destruction, The Awolowo Connection.
EASTERN REPORTERS DOCUMENTARY VERIFIED REPORT: HOW YORUBA SET THE PACE FOR NIGERIA'S DESTRUCTION. THE AWOLOWO CONNECTION
THE FOUNDATION OF NIGERIA'S PROBLEMS WAS NOT BUILT IN THE NORTH OR EAST. IT WAS BUILT IN THE WEST.
Every crisis Nigeria suffers today, bad government, coups, greed for power by force, tribal politics started from one place: The Western Region. And it started with one man and one party: Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his Action Group.
1. THE WESTERN CRISIS WHERE NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY FIRST DIED.
Before 1962, Nigeria was running well. Then Awolowo lost the 1959 Federal election to Tafawa Balewa. Instead of accepting defeat, he refused to be opposition.
He ordered his Premier in the West, Chief Ladoke Akintola, to refuse to work with Balewa's Federal Government.
The West exploded.
Awolowo and Akintola fought for control of the Western House. On May 25, 1962, thugs loyal to both sides fought inside the Western House of Assembly in Ibadan, they smashed chairs, broke the Mace, police had to tear gas the parliament. It was called the Wild Wild West.
The Federal Government declared a State of Emergency in the West, the first in Nigeria's history. The West showed Nigeria how to destroy parliamentary democracy.
2. THE FIRST TREASONABLE FELONY CONVICTION. AWOLOWO'S COUP PLAN
During the Emergency, police discovered something bigger.
Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Anthony Enahoro and 27 other Action Group leaders were arrested and charged for TREASONABLE FELONY and CONSPIRACY TO OVERTHROW THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
The facts before the court:
Awolowo had sent over 200 young Action Group members to Ghana to be trained in guerrilla warfare, sabotage and weapons handling.
The training was funded by Ghana's President Kwame Nkrumah and supervised by his man in Ghana, S.G. Ikoku.
The plan: Import arms, train a private army, assassinate Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello and other Federal leaders, and seize power by force.
Justice George Sowemimo found Awolowo guilty and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment in 1963. He was sent to Broad Street Prison and later Calabar Prison. 10 years for trying to overthrow Nigeria.
This is the FIRST coup plan in Nigerian history. And it was planned by Awolowo's Action Group.
3. THE CONFESSION THAT ENDED THE FRAME-UP LIE. S.G. IKOKU
For years, Awolowo supporters said Balewa framed Awolowo. Then their OWN MAN confessed.
Who is S.G. Ikoku?
Samuel Goomsu Ikoku was not a government witness. He was Action Group's ideological brain. Son of Alvan Ikoku. Awolowo's trusted lieutenant. At the time, he was based in Accra, Ghana, as the link-man between Awolowo and Nkrumah.
After Awolowo was jailed, Ikoku wrote a series of confessions in AFRICAN GUARDIAN magazine.
His exact words:
"I was in charge in Ghana for the training of the Action Group stalwarts sent to me at that time. What the Action Group could have done as a body when their executive was charged to court was to admit that they really prepared to carry out a coup. But the military government in 1966 carried out what they similarly had prepared."
He confirmed:
1. AG did send men to Ghana.
2. He personally trained them.
3. The objective was to overthrow the Federal Government.
4. It failed to materialise in 1962 only because they were caught.
Justice Sowemimo later said in an interview: "They did not read that version written by Ikoku who said they did plan it. He wrote how they prepared for it and said the thing never materialised. That was the truth. Not that somebody sat at the Bench and convicted him on lies."
Ikoku's confession kills every lie of victimization.
4. THE PLAN DID NOT DIE. IT RETURNED IN UNIFORM ON JANUARY 15, 1966.
This is the link they hide.
Ikoku's last line is the key: "THE MILITARY GOVERNMENT IN 1966 CARRIED OUT WHAT THEY (AG) HAD PREPARED."
On January 15, 1966, Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu, Major Adewale Ademoyega and 4 other Majors struck.
Who did they kill?
Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa, Awolowo's rival who jailed him
Premier Ahmadu Bello, Awolowo's rival
Premier Ladoke Akintola, Awolowo's rival in the West
Who did they NOT kill? No Action Group leader was touched. No Eastern Premier was killed. They only killed Awolowo's enemies.
5. ADEWALE ADEMOYEGA'S CONFESSION, "WHY WE STRUCK"
Major Adewale Ademoyega, one of the coup plotters, wrote a book titled WHY WE STRUCK. He is Yoruba from the West. He confessed everything.
In the book he wrote:
"The 1966 coup was ideological, driven by Action Group's socialist philosophy. All the Majors were disciples of Awolowo".
"Nzeogwu, though Igbo, was a staunch Awolowoist. He believed Awolowo was the only true progressive".
Their plan after killing Balewa, Bello and Akintola was to march to Calabar Prison, RELEASE CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO and make him Prime Minister of Nigeria.
Page after page, Ademoyega says: "After we kill Balewa, Bello and Akintola, we will release Chief Obafemi Awolowo from Calabar Prison and make him Prime Minister".
That is why when Gowon released Awolowo on August 2, 1966, just 6 months after the first coup killed all his enemies, many Nigerians at that time said: The 1966 coup succeeded where the 1962 plot failed.
They also planned to bring in Aminu Kano and other progressives to form a socialist government.
Ademoyega listed the cabinet they had already prepared with Awolowo as head.
So: 1962 AG plan failed. 1966 soldiers believing in AG ideology succeeded. Same enemies dead. Same leader to benefit.
And what happened? On August 2, 1966, Yakubu Gowon released Awolowo from Calabar Prison, just 6 months after his enemies were killed by his ideological followers.
6. ADEMOYEGA'S LIST. THE GOVERNMENT THEY HAD ALREADY FORMED IN THEIR DRAWER.
This is the most damning proof that January 15 was an Action Group coup in military uniform. In WHY WE STRUCK, Ademoyega wrote on page 68:
"We had earmarked from the list known to every soldier in this operation who would be what"
"Chief Obafemi Awolowo was, for example, to be released from jail immediately and to be made the executive provisional president of Nigeria."
He said: "We were going to make civilians of proven honesty and efficiency who would be thoroughly handpicked to do all the governing. We were soldiers and not politicians."
The full provisional cabinet they had agreed on:
Chief Obafemi Awolowo -Executive Provisional President / Prime Minister, to be flown from Calabar Prison by a plane already organized by Major Theophilus Nzegwu, the first Igbo Air Force officer, and Captain Udeaja.
Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe- President, to be retained as ceremonial President if he cooperated
Mallam Aminu Kano – key progressive leader for his socialist Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) to balance the government
Other thoroughly handpicked civilians of "proven honesty and efficiency", meaning AG/NCNC progressive alliance, not NPC
Captain Emma Nwobosi, who led the Western Region operation, and Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna, confirmed the same plan. Major Nzeogwu himself later said in the Nigerian Tribune of July 2, 1967: "Neither myself nor any of the other lads were in the least interested in governing the country."
Their job was to kill. Awolowo's job was to rule.
This was not a "Nigerian Army revolution." This was the 1962 Action Group treasonable felony plan dusted up, put in khaki, and executed.
CONCLUSION: THE WEST DESTROYED NIGERIA WITH GREED.
This is the truth verified by confessions:
The West, led by Awolowo's Action Group, introduced the politics of desperation into Nigeria.
When they lost election in 1959, they refused to be opposition. They burned down their own Western Parliament in 1962. They planned to overthrow the Federal Government by force and import arms from Ghana. When that failed and their leader was jailed, their ideological soldiers in the Army executed the same plan in 1966 and killed all his enemies.
This greed to take power by force at all costs is the foundation of every coup, every bad government, every instability we suffer till today.
Nigeria was never the same after the West set that pace.
If Awolowo had accepted democratic defeat in 1959 and allowed the West to be stable, there would have been no State of Emergency in 1962, no treason trial, no January 15 coup, no July counter-coup, no Civil War.
The masterminds of the coup culture were not the North, not the East, they were YORUBA from the West, courtesy of the Action Group's lust for power.
